VIN Verifications

A VIN verification is required before registering a vehicle in the City and County of Denver when the vehicle:

• has an out-of-state title,
• was purchased outside of Colorado,
• was transferred on a Purged Bill of Sale, or
• requires a correction to the description on the title.

Denver Motor Vehicle performs VIN verifications and completes a Verification Vehicle Identification Number Form (PDF) (DR 2698 from Colorado Department of Revenue) during normal business hours at any branch office for $25.00 per vehicle (weather permitting).

Please note: 

Denver Motor Vehicle offices do not provide VIN verifications for the following:

• Motor homes
• Manufactured homes
• Trailers
• Large vehicles that require staff to crawl in, under, or on the vehicle to physically view the public VIN
• Any vehicle that does not have a publicly accessible VIN
• Inclement weather or unsafe inspection conditions, including temperatures below freezing, active rain, icy conditions, or other circumstances that make the inspection area unsafe
