2022 Updates

Residents are urged to look for DOTI’s Wastewise newsletter in their mailboxes in December that will confirm which day of the week they’ll set out their carts in the new year.

Highlights of improvements set to begin January 3, 2022, include:

  • Implementing denser, more compact routes to collect the additional trash that Denverites are setting out as work from home trends continue. 19,000 more tons were collected through October of this year as compared to the same time period in 2019 (pre-pandemic).
  • Moving to a district approach and assigning regular staff to each district to ensure more consistency and fewer missed pickups.
  • Efficient routing that will result in 62,000 fewer miles driven and reductions in fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Moving to a four-day, Monday through Thursday, collection schedule instead of a five-day collection schedule. Catchup work, illegal dumping calls and holidays that previously pushed collection days to Saturdays can now be handled on Fridays, reducing overtime and the need to work weekends.

Individual collection days and calendars will be mailed to each residence in the 2022 Wastewise newsletter

Missed Collections

There are a number of reasons that your trash, recycling and/or compost might have been missed:

  • HOLIDAY WEEKS: During holiday weeks, the collection schedule is delayed by one day following the holiday.
  • BLOCKED OR IMPROPER SET OUT: Sometimes trash or recycling can’t be collected because containers are blocked or containers were set out incorrectly. Check the cart service guidelines to make sure your containers were set out correctly.
  • EXTRA TRASH COLLECTION WEEKS: Extra Trash Collection service follows an 8 week cycle.

If your trash, compost, or recycling was missed (and not for one of the above reasons), please call us at 311 (720-913-1311).

You can also submit a service request through Denver Utilities Online.
