Public Health Nursing

The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment’s (DDPHE) public health nursing and immunization program grew from Denver’s COVID-19 pandemic response.

DDPHE’s public health nursing work empowers people to live better, longer by preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and assisting in the recovery from environmental and public health emergencies, disasters, and events that pose a threat to the health and safety of Denver communities. Our public health nurses reach beyond clinic walls to deploy nursing and immunization support to reduce barriers to the health and well-being of people and communities. Our team plays a critical public health role in preventing disease, protecting people from environmental hazards, responding to disasters, and helping communities recover.

Services

DDPHE is a certified Vaccines for Children (VFC) site. These certifications allowed DDPHE to acquire and provide COVID-19 and other vaccines.  DDPHE provides broader public health nursing operations, including health screenings, outbreak management, post-exposure prophylaxis for people with high-risk exposures to a communicable illness and vaccinations to the broader at-risk population.

Immunization

Vaccines are safe and effective. Currently, the United States has the safest, most effective vaccine supply in its history. A long-standing vaccine safety system ensures that vaccines are as safe as possible. Vaccines and timely immunization are important for both children and adults and part of keeping our community safe and healthy. Find a Vaccine

Vaccines protect you and your loved ones from serious diseases like measles, polio, flu, COVID-19, and more. If you have a primary care provider and insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, or CHP+, ask if they provide routine vaccines. Learn more about recommended vaccines on the DDPHE immunization webpage under the “Find A Vaccine” section
