Public Health Investigations (PHI) empowers Denver’s communities to live better, longer by ensuring that food service establishments, child care facilities, residential health, noise, lead, body art establishments, marijuana businesses, pools, and syringe access programs are complying with applicable laws while providing public education to consumers and technical assistance to businesses. PHI is committed to resolving situations posing the greatest risk to public health and prioritizes customer responsiveness, industry partnerships and training efforts through regular inspections and assessments.

Report a COVID-19 Outbreak

To report an outbreak of COVID-19 (five or more cases) in a Denver workplace or organization, please complete our online form. We will review the information submitted, and you or the workplace will be contacted by a representative within 24 hours to discuss the next steps.

One of the key tools to fight COVID-19 and slow its spread is right in your pocket. CO Exposure Notifications is a free and voluntary service developed in partnership with Google and Apple that can notify users of possible exposure to COVID-19.

Food Safety

The Food Safety Program is designed to reduce the incidence of food-borne disease, commonly called food poisoning, through inspection of food businesses, education of those working with food, investigation of complaints, enforcement of regulations that affect the safety of food, and education of consumers about food safety.

Healthy Families Healthy Homes

The Healthy Families Healthy Homes (HFHH) program works to ensure the health and safety of Denver residents through facility inspections and resources to improve home safety. Programs within HFHH conduct regular inspections of various public facilities including child care facilities, body art establishments, pools and events for noise complaints.

Cannabis Consumer Protection

Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) inspects and regulates marijuana food and infused product facilities consistent with other food facilities in Denver using the Denver Food Establishment Regulations.

Epidemiology and Disease Intervention

The Epidemiology and Disease Intervention team investigates outbreaks of communicable diseases to reduce transmission of illness within the community and provides resources to partners on disease control and mitigation.

Plan Review

The Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) is required to conduct a full plan review for all regulated facilities undergoing a change of use, new construction or an extensive remodel.

Ride Along Program

The Public Health Investigations division offers unique opportunities for citizens, students, or anyone interested in a career with a public health enforcement agency to accompany an investigator during their duties to learn more about the division's mission.

Notification of temporary area restrictions

Animal Bites

Animal bites to humans by a domestic animal or wildlife are a reportable condition in Denver and state of Colorado. Animal bites are investigated and responded to by public health to assess risk and prevent exposure to rabies virus.

The Denver Joint Task Force on Homelessness

The Denver Joint Task Force on Homelessness is a collaboration among multiple partners working to support people experiencing homelessness in Denver.
