Temporary Area Restriction

A temporary area restriction is a type of temporary closure that the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) may use to address severe public and environmental health hazards. Temporary closures may be used in many different settings, such as restaurants, child care facilities, and even residential settings. Temporary area restrictions are generally applied in a public setting and used to address severely deteriorated areas. DDPHE works together with other City and County of Denver agencies with the goal of addressing public health, public safety and environmental hazards---to the extent possible—prior to the need for a temporary area restriction.

The types of hazards that may result in a temporary area restriction include (but are not limited to):

  • Extensive accumulation of trash and/or improperly stored or discarded food
  • Improperly disposed of human waste
  • Improperly discarded syringes
  • Severe rodent or other significant pest activity
  • Presence of hazardous chemicals or other hazardous waste
  • Significant life safety concerns

Blocks bounded by 22nd St., Stout St., Park Ave. W., and California St., notice posted 7/28/2023. Area closed 8/4/2023.
