Making data available about the health and wellness of our community is a priority of the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE). DDPHE has several sources of data and reports publicly available to the Denver community.

Additional Public Health Data Resources

These reports and datasets are used by DDPHE and many other local partners to guide decisions about programming, resources, and department-wide priorities.

  • American Community Survey (ACS) - An annual national survey of US households fielded by the U.S. Census Bureau to complement the decennial census. Includes data on health insurance coverage, among many other estimates.
  • Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) - An annual national survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A random selection of Denver County adults (18 and over) is interviewed by telephone, and participation is voluntary and anonymous. Includes data on health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services.
  • CDC HIV/AIDS Reporting System and Surveillance Reports - A secure Web-based HIV/AIDS surveillance system at the state and local health departments. Health departments submit de-identified information electronically to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on a monthly basis.
  • CDC National Syndromic Surveillance Program (NSSP) – Syndromic surveillance program operated by the CDC which receives daily data from 6,400 health care facilities in 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam.
  • CDC PLACES – A collaboration between the CDC, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the CDC Foundation which provides data and population-level analysis of health measures for small areas across the country.
  • Center for Antisocial Drug Dependence - The Center was developed to study genetic influences on and treatment of antisocial drug dependence, which is substance dependence combined with conduct disorder. The Center is a collaboration between the University of Colorado Boulder and Anschutz Medical campuses.
  • Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Air Pollution Control Division - Provides resources on motor vehicle emissions, lead-based paint, indoor air quality, indoor burning, and outdoor burning. The Division also provides services to businesses and industry on permits, inspections, and enforcement.
  • CDPHE Communicable Diseases – Provides guidance, case data, and reporting information on infectious diseases in the state of Colorado, via the Colorado Electronic Disease Reporting System (CEDRS).
  • CDPHE Health Statistics Section - tracks birth and death certificates which encompass vital statistics. All Denver deaths and births are included in these data.
  • CDPHE Prevention Services Division - Strives to improve the health and wellbeing of all Coloradans through health promotion, public health prevention programs and assuring access to health care.
  • Colorado Center For Health and Environmental Data- Colorado Public Health & Environment’s center for public health and environmental data, including links to many additional dashboard and data resources.
  • Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS) - a survey conducted by the Colorado Health Institute addressing issues of health care coverage, attitudes, access, and use in Colorado. A random selection of more than 10,000 households across the state is surveyed by telephone every two years.
  • Colorado Health Information Dataset (CoHID)-CoHID provides access to state and local-level data and resources compiled by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to help understand health and related issues affecting people in Colorado.
  • Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) - A computerized immunization tracking system operated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The system helps healthcare providers, schools, daycare, universities, employers and individuals keep track of immunizations.
  • Colorado Tobacco Attitudes and Behaviors Survey (TABS) - A survey of randomly selected Colorado adults administered every 3-4 years. The survey provides data for an ongoing understanding of chronic disease and health risks among Colorado adults. The survey is administered by the Colorado School of Public Health’s Community Epidemiology and Program Evaluation Group. Previous years have focused specifically on tobacco use, but the 2012 survey expanded to include other measures of health outcomes and behaviors.
  • Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-Based Epidemics (ESSENCE) – Contains data used by public health and health care practitioners to monitor health indicators related to the tracking of disease outbreaks.
  • Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) - Endorsed by the Colorado Department of Education, the HKCS is administered statewide every two years. The survey provides information on the health and well-being of Denver’s youth and is administered to a random selection of students in grades 6-12.
  • Healthy People 2030 - Healthy People 2030 are a set of 359 measurable disease prevention and health promotion objectives developed by experts in a wide variety of topics related to health. The national objectives are to be achieved by 2030.
  • Public Health Institute at Denver Health, Data & Statistics Section – Data on health behaviors, conditions, outcomes, and social determinants of health provided by the epidemiology, informatics and data science team at Denver Public Health.
