Denver Opioid Abatement Council (DOAC)

The DOAC oversees Denver’s allocation of Local and Regional Shares of opioid settlement funds. The DOAC facilitates the flow of settlement funds according to its 2-year plans and for their intended, approved purposes, as defined in the Colorado memorandum of understanding (MOU). The DOAC is also responsible for submitting Colorado Opioid Abatement Council (COAC) with annual expenditure data. DOAC meetings are open to the public. The DOAC has adopted guiding principles to reflect the DOAC’s values and guide decision-making: DOAC Guiding Principles.

DOAC Membership

The DOAC consists of 11 voting members and up to 8 (non-voting) community advisors. All DOAC members are appointed by the Mayor of Denver. Community members and representatives from community-based organizations can apply for vacant non-voting member positions. Vacant positions will be posted on this website. Voting Members

Voting Members have two year terms, and include representatives from:

  • Department of Public Health & Environment (2)
  • Denver Human Services
  • Department of Housing Stability (HOST)
  • Department of Public Safety (2), which may or may not include a representative from Denver County Sheriff’s Department
  • Department of Parks & Recreation
  • Mayor’s Office
  • Denver City Council
  • Denver District Attorney’s Office
  • County Court

Community Advisors (Non-voting)

Non-voting Members have one-year terms, and include representatives with the following areas of expertise:

  • Behavioral health providers 
  • Health care providers 
  • Recovery and addiction treatment experts 
  • Other county or city representatives 
  • People with lived or living experience  
  • Affected family members 
  • First responders 
  • Harm reduction experts

Community Advisor Application Process

Step 1.APPLY through April 25. 

Complete the steps below.

The Denver Office of Boards and Commissions (OBC) Application

Your resume or a work history/volunteer summary (uploaded via the above OBC application portal link in step #2). Please include a description of how you believe your experience will contribute to the work of this council.

INTERVIEW

The DOAC will review all applications and conduct additional screening and interviews as needed. These one-year terms have an anticipated start date of June 2025.

Step 2.MAYOR’S APPROVAL

If you are recommended for membership, your name and application will be presented to the Mayor’s Office for final approval (DOAC is an official commission that advises the Mayor of the City and County of Denver).
