Project Scope Update: Sport Courts
After careful review, it’s been determined that the sport court renovation projects at Congress Park and Sloan’s Lake Park will no longer include the construction of pickleball courts. This is due to the close proximity to residences that would result in consistent noise violations that could cause the need for future closures and/or limits to hours of operation. To support the growing, popular sport of pickleball while being respectful of park neighbors, other sports court users, and department resources, DPR is evaluating other suitable locations for pickleball courts. DPR is also assessing existing outdoor pickleball courts and evaluating standards for where new pickleball courts should be located.
Project Scope
The south playground and picnic facilities at Sloan’s Lake Park (W. 17th Ave. & Utica St.) have been redesigned with input from the surrounding community. Improvements to adjacent parking and landscape, along with accessibility upgrades. In addition, the south tennis courts at Sloan’s Lake Park ( W.17th Ave. & Raleigh St.) were replaced.
Community Outreach
Community outreach and conceptual design took place in 2019, followed by design development and construction documents in early 2020.

Update 1/24/2022: Due to permitting issues, a splash pad will not be included in the overall playground design at Sloan’s Lake. The ‘Mars Sandstone Constellation Splash Pad’ area (as seen on the final preferred concept) has been repurposed as an imaginative sand play area.
