The section of Sanderson Gulch addressed in this project is located between W. Arkansas Ave. and W. Florida Ave. The existing culverts at Arkansas Ave and Florida Ave are currently undersized for a 100-year flood event. In addition, the culvert at Arkansas Ave requires acts as a pedestrian underpass and does not meet DPR standards. This project will improve Sanderson Gulch, replace the culverts, improve the multiuse path, improve the first under-crossing, create a second under-crossing, and improve the floodplain for nearby residents.

In September 2018, the Grandoozy Music Festival was held at Overland Golf Course in the Overland neighborhood, with a portion of the the ticket sales allocated to improvements in the adjacent neighborhood. After garnering input from the community about what they would like to see prioritized with these funds, the neighbors prioritized the creation of pollinator habitat, garden, and an outdoor classroom at Sanderson Gulch Park.
The portion of Sanderson Gulch Park that is receiving the pollinator garden, outdoor classroom, and trail improvements is approximately 12 acres. It is located across from Godsman Elementary School, bordered by Florida Ave. to the north, S. Zuni St. to the west, Raritan Ave. to the east, and Gunnison St. to the south.
