Bear Creek Greenbelt

Trail Detour Update: April 2022

Construction of the Bear Creek Trail improvements will begin the week of April 18, starting with mobilization and staging for Phase 1, which includes concrete work and parallel trail development, between the Sister's City Trail (east of S. Estes St.) and S. Wadsworth Blvd. 

Trail closures within the work area include the Bear Creek Trail, the Stone House Trail and the dirt two-track trail that begins at the Wadsworth Blvd. Trailhead. For your safety, please respect the trail closures. 

The concreate path from the Wadsworth Blvd. Trailhead to the bridge over Bear Creek will remain open for access to the Bear Creek Greenbelt north of the creek.

Hampden Heights Trail

July - October 2022

Denver Parks & Recreation is starting a paving project to replace the existing asphalt trail with a 10-foot concrete trail at Hampden Heights. This long anticipated improvement will begin construction at 8000 E Eastman Ave/S Ulster St near Holm Elementary School on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 through August.  Trail closure also include S. Uinta Ct. Please follow detours posted.  Remaining trail improvements and detours at Hampden Heights will extend past Wilding Ct and include a section between S Akron Street to E Eastman Ave/Hampden Heights Park. More details and detours to be shared as the project kicks off.

High Line Canal

Trail Closure: August 15-19, 2022: 

The High Line Canal Trail near Parker Road and E. Mississippi Ave. will be closed while crews install the permanent pedestrian railing along the trail on the south side of Parker Road. The closure will begin on Monday, August 1st at 7 am and is expected to be open on Friday, August 5th by 7 pm.

The High Line Canal Trail Underpass - Mississippi/Parker was open to the public on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. The Contractor continues with minor work on the trail. A temporary railing has been installed along the trail on the south side of Parker Road, which has allowed the trail to open sooner. This temporary pedestrian railing will be in place until the permanent railing is installed.

Bible Park | Now Open 

As of June 30, 2022: Emergency tree work is now complete and the High Line Canal through Bible Park has reopened.

South Platte River Trail

Various long and short-term infrastructure projects will soon be implemented and require detours along the South Platte River Trail in the coming months and years:   


Bronco-REI Bridge

August 15-22, 2022

The east side of the South Platte River Trail will be closed between the Bronco and REI Bridges. Please use the west side of the trail during this time. 


Johnson Habitat Park to W. Mississippi Ave.

January 2022 - Fall 2023

The failing retaining wall at Mississippi Ave. will be replaced, along with upgrades made to the trail in this area. Trail users will be detoured to S. Jason Street. 

Project Timeline:

  • Winter 2022: Design complete
  • Spring-Fall 2023: Construction

Carpio Sanguinette Park

October 1 - May 2022

Trail improvements will be implemented between W. 51st and W. 53rd Avenue. Construction in the area is anticipated to begin by the end of 2021 and will last 4-6 months. Trail users will be detoured through Carpio Sanguinette Park and along 53rd Avenue.
