Approved Street Tree List
Selecting the right tree for your site helps ensure a healthy tree that will provide many years of enjoyment and environmental benefits. Given proper and consistent maintenance including supplemental irrigation, proper pruning and avoidance of chemical contaminants, trees on the approved list will be assets to Denver's urban forest and your neighborhood's tree canopy. Browse the dashboard below to find details such as size, appearance, moisture requirements and other notes, along with prohibited street tree species.
When possible, obtain trees from a local seed source which will be adapted to the region's highly variable and often harsh growing conditions. If locally grown trees cannot be obtained, source from locations with similar growing conditions in regards to precipitation, soil conditions, temperatures, etc.
By Denver city ordinance (57-18) the adjoining property owner is responsible for all aspects of street tree care, including but not limited to: planting, pruning, clean-up, and removal. A free permit is required for street tree planting and removal.
