DPR’s new Base Camp is the latest project completed in Genesee Park. This new facility allows us to expand outdoor recreation programs that connect Denver youth and families with nature. The base camp includes 4 yurts, a shade shelter, vault restrooms, group gathering areas, and a small amphitheater along with access to the Genesee Challenge Course. In support of DPR’s Game Plan for a Healthy City, the base camp will be used for special programs focused on creating equitable access to our mountain parks.

Genesee Park was acquired by the City of Denver 100 years ago thanks to the foresight of leaders who recognized the value of preserving access to Colorado’s mountain landscapes. The Genesee Base Camp furthers this initiative to ensure that more people can come enjoy the mountain park. The new Genesee Base Camp allows us to expand recreation programs that connect Denver youth and their families to nature.  This project was funded by a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado along with legacy and city funds. Other project partners included the Mile High Youth Corp and DPR’s own Outdoor Recreation and Mountain Park teams who built many of the camp’s features themselves.
