Rising more than 14,000 feet above Denver’s front range, Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans) is home to the highest paved road in North America and offers visitors a remarkable journey through multiple climate zones—from forested foothills to alpine tundra—along the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway. The mountain and its surrounding recreation area are managed through a longstanding partnership between Denver Mountain Parks and the U.S. Forest Service, reflecting more than a century of shared commitment to protecting the region’s natural landscapes while providing public access to Colorado’s high country.
Along the route, visitors may encounter alpine lakes, ancient bristlecone pines, and wildlife such as mountain goats and bighorn sheep while enjoying sweeping views of the Continental Divide.
Timed entry reservations are required for vehicles and motorcycles and can be made at recreation.gov. Free passes will be available for check-out through Denver Public Library and Clear Creek County Library District with a valid library card. Reservations and fees are not required for bicycles or pedestrians accessing the recreation area via designated hiking trails.
