Colorado law requires that all child passengers must be properly buckled up and restrained while riding in a moving vehicle. Car seats or booster seats are required for younger/smaller children.

This CDOT Child Passenger Safety Colorado Law Flier(PDF, 2MB)  has an easy-to-follow chart with the requirements. For more information about the Colorado Child Safety law visit their website.

The Denver Fire Department does not perform car seat safety checks. Please visit the CDOT page for resources and videos.

Additional Safety Information

Report unsafe products to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Your report will let CPSC and other Americans know you found a dangerous product.

CPSC works to save lives and keep families safe by reducing the unreasonable risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products and fulfilling its vision to be the recognized global leader in consumer product safety. CPSC does this by: enforcing standards, obtaining the recall of products, researching hazards, developing standards, and educating consumers and manufacturers.
