Hazmat Operational Permits
Releases of hazardous materials endanger employees, the public, emergency responders, adjacent properties and the environment.
A new Hazmat application is required every year. Hazmat permits are not renewable. Your HMIS is a legal document and changes in quantities or products must be recorded annually. Renewal of a HazMat permit requires transferring the data submitted for the previous HazMat Operational Permit to the most recent version of the HazMat Report (HMR).
Definitions
HMR (Hazardous Materials Report) - This is a Microsoft Excel workbook containing input forms for Contacts, Building description, HazMat area descriptions, and a HazMat Inventory Statement (HMIS). It is used by Fire Prevention to determine code compliance and data needed for permit issuance. Errors within the HMR (shown in “Column S”) will result in your submittal being marked “Not Approved”. The most current version of the HMR must be used.
HMMP (Hazardous Materials Management Plan) - This is a set of facility graphic plans depicting locations, types, and amounts of HazMat and emergency equipment. The HMMP needs to be submitted with permit.
EAP (Emergency Action Plan) – Facilities with more than 50 employees are required to submit an EAP.
If required by State and Federal Regulations, file your Tier II reports with the appropriate agencies. The Denver Fire Department does not review your Tier II report.

Submit HMR documents and apply through E-Permits - Accela Citizen Access, using a HazMat permit application. The HMR documents are uploaded during this process.
