Denver Public Schools (DPS) has a total enrollment of approximately 89,210 students across nearly 200 schools, not to mention a number of private schools also operating in the City & County of Denver and our neighboring municipalities. In order to successfully educate and encourage safe active transportation to and from school for school communities, it takes a knowledgeable team to deliver consistent, reliable and tested safety and active transportation education.
Since 2020, The Denver SRTS team has been creating and testing educational modules in Denver classrooms with safe transportation curriculum. These modules are now available for anyone to use, especially in classroom or small group educational settings. The modules cover the most in-demand or foundational safety training topics we receive through Denver Safe Routes to Schools.
This lesson is interactive and invites students to share knowledge & experiences, give feedback on fitting a helmet, and explore the basic mechanics of a bicycle.
Designed for students K-5
This live-action video shows safety tips for rolling or biking to school, including a helmet fit check, bike check, route planning, and safe riding practices.
Designed for students 5th-12th grade.
This lesson is interactive and invites students to share knowledge & experiences, give feedback on how they are riding in vehicles, and learn how to be safely protected in a car seat or booster seat.
This lesson has students analyze different travel perspectives, drop-off behaviors, and procedures in the classroom before an optional day of exploring their schools drop-off environment and practicing procedures outside.
This lesson introduces ways students can safely navigate the physical environment while walking, rolling, or biking to school and around their neighborhoods. We want students to build confidence in their ability to get around safely on sidewalks and streets. At the same time, students should also understand that even though they follow the rules of the road, they need to look out for others who may not. This is a two-day lesson with a field trip on Day 2.
