Louisiana and South Pearl Street Intersection Improvements

The City is completing the design phase of the Louisiana and South Pearl Street Intersection Improvement Project to enhance drainage at the intersection.

Stormwater Management

  • Challenge: Aging inlets and short curb heights have reduced the street’s capacity to convey stormwater runoff. Moderate amounts of rainfall frequently cause flooding and damage to private property adjacent to the intersection.
  • Goal: The project will alleviate drainage issues at the intersection by making necessary surface and inlet improvements with the potential to add trees.

Safety and Mobility

  • The project will also include new crosswalk striping, maintained shared bicycle lanes and new ADA compliant curb ramps to address safety and comfort.

Project Schedule

The planning and design phases of the project will determine the best approach for solving the problem. The project team has completed an engineering study of the project area and is engaging adjacent property owners and the public to inform the final design.

The advertising/bidding phase will begin in July 2022, with construction expected to begin in Q4 2022/Q1 2023.
