The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI), in collaboration with Hamon Infrastructure, is scheduled to begin a viaduct rehabilitation project on 8th Avenue between Vallejo and Mariposa Street at the start of August. The project will replace the viaduct's expansion joints and spot-repair its bridge deck to support continued use by the traveling public. Expansion joints allow a bridge to expand and contract while preventing damage to the structure.
DOTI is investing approximately $1.5M in this bridge maintenance work with funding approved by voters as part of the Elevate Denver Bond.
The project team successfully installed the new bridge expansion device on the 8th Avenue viaduct, with all bridge lanes reopening on Friday evening, December 13.
After Friday, there will be no impacts to the traveling public as it relates to this project until the spring. The project team will be conducting remaining operations underneath the viaduct structure before taking a brief winter hiatus. In the spring, crews will resume work to perform a final mill and overlay to complete the project. Additional notice will be given prior to traffic impacts starting again.
Please continue to travel through the area with caution and follow all signage within the work zone. The project team wishes you safe travels this holiday season and thanks you for your continued patience during construction.
The project is set to begin August 12, 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in March 2025. This timeline is dependent on weather and resource availability and is subject to change.
