44th Avenue & Broadway Pedestrian Accessibility Improvements

Project Overview

Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) improved pedestrian access, including new sidewalk sections, curbs, gutters, ramps, stairs, railings and lighting, along 44th Avenue between Delaware Street and Broadway. These improvements complement the neighborhood aesthetic and travel along 44th Avenue and improved safety and access for pedestrians traveling along this corridor.

The 44th Avenue & Broadway project is funded primarily by Elevate Denver Bond dollars approved by voters in November 2017. The bond included $47.7 million to fill existing gaps in the sidewalk network, with $17 million specifically earmarked for the Globeville, Elyria and Swansea neighborhoods.

This project began in fall 2023 and was completed in August 2024.

Construction Completed!

Below is the final construction update as of July 2024. The project was completed in August 2024.

DOTI has opened up the pedestrian ramp at 44th and Broadway by putting up temporary fencing along the ramp while waiting for the permanent railings. The ramp is open for use by the public, but the stairs are still closed. Signage has been placed notifying pedestrians that there are still adjacent construction zones that remain closed to the public and directing them to stay on the ramp.

The existing walkway using the sidewalk on the west side of Broadway and the south side of 44th Avenue will be open and available to the public during this time. The stairs will be fenced off for the safety of the traveling public.
