Elevate Denver Backbone Projects

Projects Overview

Denver residents decided on a vision for the City’s complete bikeway network in 2011 (Denver Moves: Bicycles), and confirmed that vision in 2019 (Blueprint Denver). These plans outline where and what types of bikeways Denver should install to create a complete, connected, safe, and comfortable bikeway system in Denver.

The voter-approved Elevate Denver Bond Program allocated funding to design and construct nearly 50 miles of this bikeway network vision. These bikeways provide high comfort connections to key destinations throughout the city, and help us to realize the community’s vision for a healthier and more vibrant city.

Ongoing Project Details

E 12th Ave from Madison St to N Yosemite St

The City and County of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has been hard at work planning for the future of biking in our city. The E. 12th Avenue Neighborhood Bikeway project has progressed from the initial plan phase and into the design phase. As a last step before this project moves on to the final build phase, we are inviting community members, stakeholders, and impacted groups to provide feedback on the 60% design for this project.

The 12th Ave neighborhood bikeway project is currently progressing to final design. See below for a summary of public outreach to date. Construction timelines are to be determined at this time.

S Jason St from W Virginia Ave to W Florida Ave

As a part of the West Denver Safer Streets project, a bike lane is recommended on S Jason Street between W Virginia Ave and W Louisiana Ave; on W Louisiana Ave between S Huron St and S Lipan St; on S Huron St between S Platte River Dr and W Louisiana Ave; and on S Lipan St between W Louisiana Ave and W Florida Ave.

These improvements will help improve safety for people walking and bicycling as they access Ruby Hill Park, the Platte River Trail, and the many businesses along these corridors. This project provides enhancements to the existing facilities on these streets, improves major street crossings, and retains more parking than the existing Platte River Trail detour route currently provides.

Krameria Street Traffic Diverter Meeting - March 24, 2022

A virtual community meeting was held on March 24th to discuss a proposed traffic diverter on Krameria Street at 17th Avenue Parkway as part of the Kearney/ Krameria Neighborhood Bikeway project. This traffic calming feature is proposed to improve the street for bicyclists and pedestrians by lowering the amount of through vehicle traffic on the street.

Denver Moves: Bicycles and Blueprint Denver recommended Kearney Street/Krameria Street to be a neighborhood bikeway. Neighborhood bikeways are designed to be shared streets between people biking and driving where speeds and traffic volumes are low. This traffic calming feature is installed to increase the visibility of people walking and biking, discourage speeding, and discourage non-local traffic. To achieve this on Kearney Street/Krameria Street, traffic diverters are planned for installation on Krameria Street at the 17th Avenue Parkway as part of the Community Transportation Networks neighborhood bikeway project.
