Neighborhood(s): Northeast Park Hill, North Park Hill, South Park Hill, Montclair, Hilltop, Washington Virginia Vale
Project Description: This neighborhood bikeway will include pedestrian safety improvements such as curb extensions and pedestrian islands to shorten crossing distances, as well as flashing lights to make it easier for people walking to cross busy streets. The project will also include traffic calming that will slow down vehicle speeds, as well as a bike box to enhance safety for bicyclists at the intersection of Krameria St and E 8th Ave.
Project Status: Construction Coming late 2024 to early 2025
Program: Central Denver CTN and South Central Denver CTN

Kearney/Krameria Neighborhood Bikeway FAQ
What is a neighborhood bikeway?
Neighborhood bikeways are local streets that include traffic calming measures (including curb extensions, pinch points, traffic circles, diverters, and more) to maintain low and slow vehicle traffic, making them ideal streets for cyclists to share the street with vehicles. These features also make the street safer and more comfortable for pedestrians. These streets do not have striped bike lanes. Cyclists are meant to share the lane with drivers.
How many flex posts will there be and where are they?
Flex posts are being used minimally throughout the project. They are primarily being used for curb extensions at intersections, which slow turning movements for drivers and reduce crossing distances for pedestrians.
Are there mid-block treatments along the bikeway?
There are some pinch points along the bikeway (which is 10+ miles long), but no mid-block treatments are being installed from Alameda Ave to E 6th Ave.
Are any all-way stops or traffic circles being installed through the project?
There are new all-way stops being installed at E 3rd Ave & Kearney St and E 28th Ave & Kearney St. The project does not include traffic circles.
How does the design account for parts of the street without sidewalks?
In segments of the street with no adjacent sidewalks, flex posts will be placed 4 feet from the curb to allow for pedestrian access,
How was community feedback incorporated?
The last public meeting for the bikeway was held in May 2022, when draft designs for the bikeway were reviewed and discussed. DOTI staff then attended a field visit with the Crestmoor Homeowners Association and gathered additional feedback in September 2022. Following those meetings, DOTI went to work incorporating comments into our preliminary designs, and revised concept designs were shared with the community in the fall of 2022. Engineering plans were developed during 2023.
Why is this project important?
This bikeway completes a major north/south gap in Denver's bike network, north of the Cherry Creek Trail. It will connect future bikeways on 12th Avenue, Severn Place, 3rd Avenue, Southmoor Drive and Cedar Avenue. The completed project will result in safer crossings for all modes at high-traffic intersections including 6th Avenue Parkway, Southmoor Drive, and Cedar Avenue. The project will connect key destinations such as Crestmoor Park, George Washington High School, Safeway and King Soopers.
When will the bikeway be constructed?
Construction is expected to begin sometime during the fall of 2024. Residents and businesses along the bikeway will be notified prior to construction.
