DENVER – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) would like to make residents aware of two locations where infrastructure improvements are happening so they can plan their travels accordingly.

Sanitary Sewer Improvements in the area of East 56th Ave and Peoria St.

  • Closure of Peoria Street at E 56th Avenue for three weeks

Week of March 19

  • One-week full closure of E. 56th Avenue from Havana to Chambers

Week of March 26

One Block of Champa to Close Temporarily for Construction Crane Removal

The removal of a second crane from the Colorado Convention Center Expansion site will require crews to close Champa Street from 14th Street to Speer Boulevard for a couple of days this week.

Weather permitting, the Champa Street closure from 14th Street to Speer Boulevard will start Tuesday, March 7, at 12:00 a.m. and continue through Thursday, March 9, at 11:59 p.m.  Message boards are in place to give travelers who normally take this route advance notice.  A map showing the detour route is attached.

One last crane will remain on site until summer, visible from the Champa side of the facility, as crews continue constructing an 80,000 square foot multipurpose room, outdoor terrace, and other supporting spaces on top of the existing convention center building. The rooftop expansion will also offer convention-goers sweeping views of the City skyline and mountains. The improvements are expected to be completed at the end of this year.
