Denver – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is anticipating reopening East 56th Avenue from Peoria Street to Peña Boulevard next Friday, December 23, ensuring the roadway is ready for travel again after a new sanitary sewer pipe was installed underground.

Crews will also reopen Chambers Road from E. 56th Avenue to Maxwell Place, which is also currently closed for the emergency repair work. The reopening of these roadways comes four days later than originally planned, but in time for the holiday weekend.

Road closures were required after contracted crews making travel and safety improvements on East 56th Avenue uncovered a damaged sanitary sewer pipe - not caused by their construction activities, but which needed to be addressed.  The pipe could not be adequately repaired and was replaced.

Electronic message boards will remain in place to keep travelers informed and, for the next week, alternate routes are advised, including using the I-70 corridor for access between Peoria St. and Peña Blvd.
