Crime Prevention and Control Commission

Established in 2005, the Crime Prevention and Control Commission (CPCC) helps guide Denver’s efforts to reduce crime and recidivism through evidence-based prevention strategies. The commission was originally created to address jail overcrowding, with a focus on developing alternatives to incarceration that improve outcomes while maintaining public safety. In 2018, Denver City Council expanded the commission’s role to include a focus on behavioral health, recognizing the impact mental health and substance use challenges can have on involvement in the justice system.

Today, CPCC brings together justice system agencies, community partners and city leaders to strengthen coordination, support data-driven decision-making and invest in innovative programs that safely reduce reliance on Denver’s corrections system. Through collaboration, research and strategic funding, CPCC works to advance a more effective, coordinated and forward-looking approach to public safety in Denver.
