Denver Participatory Budgeting

Hey Denver, how would you spend $2 million for your neighborhood? 

Denver's Participatory Budgeting Program gives residents the power to choose how to spend public money by proposing ideas, working with their neighbors to build proposals, and selecting their top projects.

This year, there is $2 million for neighborhood improvements in the recently completed neighborhood planning areas and for citywide mobility and transportation projects.

How can I get involved?

Lead Denver's Participatory Budgeting Program! Residents can apply for one of two paid leadership opportunities: The Community Steering Committee, or a Community Connector Mini-Grant. 

Community Steering Committee: 
  • Join a small group of residents to lead the Program. Committee members can receive $700 for their time, and will work with the city the next several months. Committee members will set the rules of the process and oversee the phases of the program.

Community Connector Mini-Grants: 
  • Receive a mini-grant to help do neighborhood outreach. Individuals can receive up to $1,000 and organizations can receive up to $7,000 for outreach support and events. Mini-grants will go to individuals to help with hyper-local outreach as well as non-profits or community organizations.

Where will the money go?

During the first cycle of the Program, residents will select winning projects and spend the $1.7 million in two ways:
  • $1,000,000 will go toward winning projects in the recently completed neighborhood planning areas: the far northeast, east, and east central Denver. 
  • $700,000 will go toward winning projects citywide that help with mobility and transportation safety. 

Another $1.7 million is available for the next cycle of the Program.
