Things to Know

When the council thinks about a new law, it starts out in a committee. If the bill is going to change the municipal code or a policy, then the committee holds a 15-minute public comment time where residents can speak on the issue. The time may be longer if the chairperson allows it. These public comment periods are listed in the weekly schedule. You can sign up here to receive the weekly schedule by email or find a link to it each week in the News section at the bottom of this page.

Here are a few things to know about speaking to a committee:

  • Sign-up to speak begins at 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the committee meeting and ends one hour before the committee meeting holding the public input session.
  • You can sign up to speak in person in the Cathy Reynolds City Council Chamber at 1437 Bannock St, 4th floor, or you may join the meeting and speak via Zoom. This is on the sign-up form.
  • You have two minutes to speak. There will be a timer you can see.
  • Because the comment time is only 15 minutes, not everyone may get to speak.
  • See our privacy policy for information on what we ask for and how we use it.

Check the schedule above and select the committee holding a public input session that you'd like to participate in by either signing up to speak or to submit written testimony:
