Our office sponsored and funded a traffic study of 6th Ave. Between Colorado Blvd. and Quebec St. to identify problems and come up with solutions that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) can implement to alleviate traffic problems on that road and to improve crossings for people walking and biking.

Our office sponsored and funded a traffic study of 8th Ave from Colorado to Quebec to identify problems and come up with solutions that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) can implement to alleviate traffic problems on that road.

We also held two more meetings, one on Oct 19, 2021 to discuss the results of the study (the slide deck can be viewed here(PDF, 422KB)) and one on Nov 16, 2021 to talk about the recommendations moving forward (the slide deck can be viewed here(PDF, 1MB)).

Our office is now working with DOTI to fund and implement these changes and improve traffic along 8th Ave!

From July 2019 to December 2022, there were 851 calls for service on 13th and 14th Avenues due to car accidents. 107 of those involved accidents resulted in property damage, injury, or death. The District 5 Council Office has worked with the Denver Police Department and the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to address this community safety issue. There are recommendations in place to construct traffic calming measures along 13th and 14th, but they have not yet been installed. On March 15th, we hosted a community safety meeting with DPD and DOTI. 

In the Summer of 2023 DOTI did an assessment of the one way signage, and they will be adding needed signage in all locations along the corridor in the coming months.

10.16.23 DOTI wants to provide an update regarding the 13th/14th Study:

1. Worked with DPD to ensure that speed monitoring and citations are being issued along the corridors. A table of that data is attached below. Additionally, will continue to coordinate with DPD on deployment of speed trailers and automated speed enforcement.
2. Met with the East Colfax Neighborhood Association and discussed safety improvement strategies.
3. Identified sidewalk gaps in East Colfax neighborhood to be constructed by RISE bond funding.Filling the gaps along E 13th and 14th Ave in the East Colfax neighborhood (between Quebec and Yosemite) is the highest priority, as are the north-south gaps that connect that neighborhood to future Colfax BRT stops. DOTI is aiming to put these projects out to design bid within the next 6 months.
4. Conducted sign sweep of corridors and currently issuing work orders to install necessary “one way” and appropriate “speed limit” signs between Broadway and Yosemite. 
5. Calibrated existing speed feedback signs and exploring potential locations of new/additional speed feedback signs.

My office sponsored and funded a traffic study of Holly Street between 8th Avenue and Leetsdale Drive to identify problems and come up with solutions that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) can implement to alleviate traffic problems on that road.
