Far Northwest Area Plan

Latest News

Coming soon: a neighborhood plan for Berkeley, Regis, Sloan Lake, and West Highland

The Neighborhood Planning Initiative is launching its next neighborhood planning process. Residents, business owners, and other community members in the Far Northwest Area will have the opportunity to help shape the future of their neighborhoods. This effort will help create a shared vision for the future of the area’s land use, housing, transportation, parks, recreation, and social spaces.

The project is currently in its early stages and will officially kick off this spring, with more opportunities for the community to share ideas and shape the plan.

How to get involved now:

  • Advisory Committee - This committee meets at key points throughout the process to help advise on community topics, guide the process for engagement and feedback, etc.
  • Community Pulse Survey - Start with this quick 3-question survey to start sharing your ideas and vision for your community
  • Project newsletter - Stay informed throughout the process and learn about events and major milestones

How to Get Involved

There will be many opportunities to participate in the plan throughout spring and into the summer, including public meetings and online surveys. Your input will continue to play a key role in shaping the Far Northwest Area Plan.

Advisory Committee

The advisory committee for Far Northwest Area Plan will be a group of 15 to 20 community members who:

  • Represent a diverse set of interests
  • Meet at key points during the 18-month planning process
  • Help spread awareness about the plan and gather input
  • Advise city staff on community outreach and feedback
  • Help ensure traditionally underrepresented voices are heard and represented during the planning process and in the final plan

Advisory committee members are expected to engage in respectful and constructive discussions and commit to a fair process and civil discourse. Committee members should be willing to balance viewpoints to reach general agreement. The planning process is expected to last about 18 months and includes committee meetings and additional public events and hearings.

Committee members will be expected to attend approximately nine committee meetings, which will be held in person every two to three months and last about two hours. Food, childcare and interpretation (if necessary) will be provided at these meetings, and committee members will receive monetary compensation for their attendance. Committee members may be asked to review materials in advance or to attend engagement opportunities with the project team.
