Sustainability badge

To qualify for a sustainability badge, you must select at least 10 activities from the list below. If you have completed a sustainability activity that is not listed, you can submit it as an "other" activity. Only one "other" activity will count toward the minimum number required to earn the badge.

  • Organize a "Green Team" to oversee and document the business' green certification and ongoing environmental practices.
  • Give incentives to employees to volunteer with environmental organizations.
    • Tips: Incentives cannot include free marijuana.
  • Ensure that any new equipment purchases are Energy Star-rated when available.
  • Replace all incandescent lighting with compact fluorescent light bulbs or LEDs.
  • Buy 100% recycled content paper products with at least 30% post-consumer content.
  • Use energy-efficient vehicles such as electric vehicles for business transportation needs.  
  • Buy environmentally preferable (biodegradable, naturally derived, organic) cleaning products and soaps.
  • Get certified as a Green Business by Certifiably Green Denver.

  • Receive a bronze, silver, or gold recognition from the Colorado Green Business Network.

  • Get an energy audit and/or take part in Xcel Energy's Strategic Energy Management.
    • Tips: Learn more about Xcel Energy's Strategic Energy Management program here.
  • Install variable frequency drives (VFDs) and/or variable speed motors on your equipment.
  • Conduct a compressed air audit (with incentives from Xcel Energy). This is to identify potential upgrades, fix leaks, and identify inappropriate uses of compressed air in your facility.
  • Provide RTD EcoPasses to employees.

  • Use other permitted and sustainable methods for rendering marijuana waste unusable and unrecognizable, such as on-site composting, anaerobic digestion, pyrolyze into biochar, or biomass gasification, in accordance with MED rule 3-230(E)(2).
  • All consumer packaging is made from post-consumer recycled content.
  • All consumer packaging is recyclable or compostable.
  • Provide a receptacle in your facility for marijuana consumer waste in compliance with MED rule 3-240.
  • Have recycling and composting receptacles for employee use.

  • Have bike storage for customers or employees.
  • Install an electric vehicle charging station in your parking lot. 
  • Beautify the landscaping on your property by planting trees and creating green spaces.
