Contracting badge

To qualify for a contracting badge, you must select at least 10 activities from the list below. If you have completed a contracting activity that is not listed, you can submit it as an "other" activity. Only one "other" activity will count toward the minimum number required to earn the badge. The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade publishes a minority business directory to assist you in connecting with minority-owned businesses.

  • Buy containers or packaging from a minority-owned business.
  • Sell products or services at a discount to minority-owned businesses.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for facility maintenance services.
  • Educate your staff in charge of contracting, purchasing, etc. on the importance and benefits of working with minority-owned businesses.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for security services (for example, alarms, security guards, video monitoring, etc.).
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for employee training (for example, responsible vendor training, diversity and inclusion training, compliance training, etc.).
  • Buy merchandise (for example, T-shirts, pipes, lighters, etc.) from a minority-owned business.
  • Buy supplies (for example, office supplies, snacks, etc.) from a minority-owned business.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business to put on events (for example, employee holiday parties).
  • Sponsor an event that benefits minority-owned businesses.
    • Tips: Donations should total at least $2,000.
  • Promote minority-owned businesses in your facility (for example, board for fliers and business cards).
  • Work with Denver's Office of Economic Development and Opportunity to hold training for current vendors on how to get certified as a minority-owned business.

  • Become a member of a minority business chamber of commerce (for example, the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce).
  • Contract with a minority artist to design a logo, T-shirt, or other promotional materials for your business.
  • Host an event at a minority-owned venue.
  • Buy gift cards to minority-owned businesses as employee rewards or incentives.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for waste management.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for public relations services.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for marketing services.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for facility design or construction.
  • Use a minority-owned business for catering services.
  • Use a minority-owned business for translation services.
  • Work with your human resources and procurement teams to create a plan to work with more minority-owned businesses.
  • Contract with a minority-owned business for financial services.
