Child care

The Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection no longer issues child care establishment licenses. The child care center and child care home licenses were repealed with the passage of Council Bill 26-0852.

Child care providers are still required to obtain a state license from the Colorado Department of Early Childhood.

Approvals by local zoning, fire, and health officials are still required to obtain the state license.

Denver Zoning Approval

To obtain approval from Denver Zoning as part of your state license application, a zoning use permit for a Child Care Center or Child Care Home is required.  A zoning use permit grants the applicant/owner of a lot, building, or structure permission for the requested use of the land. "Use" can be any activity, occupation, business, or operation in a building or on a lot/tract of land.

  • Before contacting Zoning, email CPD Records to ask if there's an existing zoning use permit for a Child Care Center or Child Care Home for your address. Allow up to 10 business days for them to respond.
  • Contact: zoning.review@denvergov.org  or 720-865-3000
  • If they respond there isn't a zoning use permit for your address, then contact Zoning to apply for a permit. They will tell you if you're zoned for the use. Allow up to 10 business days for them to respond.

To obtain approval from Denver Fire as part of your state license application, contact (720) 913-3409.

 

Denver Department of Public Health & Environment Approval

To obtain your health inspection approval from Denver Department of Public Health and Environment as part of your state license application, contact (720) 913-1311.
