We found the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance fully implemented all recommendations and addressed the risks identified during the original audit. As a result, we conclude our follow-up effort related to the “Outdated Infrastructure” audit.
By reconciling its information technology asset inventory, the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is better prepared to make end-of-life decisions for its assets. Additionally, the zoo’s technology leaders updated their “Enterprise Asset Management Policy” in 2025, which is enhanced by including a formal definition of “outdated infrastructure” and “standardized hardware refresh cycles.” This will help ensure institutional knowledge of these processes is retained and shared when personnel changes occur.
April 2, 2026 In keeping with generally accepted government auditing standards and Auditor’s Office policy, as authorized by city ordinance, we have a responsibility to monitor and follow up on audit recommendations to ensure city agencies address audit findings through appropriate corrective action and to aid us in planning future audits. In July 2025, we audited the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance’s outdated infrastructure and found risks involving equipment inventory and policy clarity. The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance agreed to implement both our recommendations. We recently followed up and found that the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance implemented the recommendations. We appreciate the leaders and team members at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance who shared their time and knowledge with us throughout the audit and the follow-up process.
