Pet Food Resources 

  • Colorado Pet Pantry
    • The Colorado Pet Pantry will temporarily feed Colorado pets, allowing families to increase their ability to care for pets with the goal of keeping them out of shelters and with their families.
    • Pet food bank locations are available around the city. 
  • Many animal shelters offer pet food when they have donations available. Please reach out to your local shelter to inquire about availability.

    • Offers a program for people who are unable to care for their cats temporarily due to a home foreclosure, temporary homelessness, an extended hospital stay, etc. Provides food, shelter, and medical care for the cat(s) for up to 30 days, at which point they return to their families

    • The Pet Assist program helps those in need of a temporary safe place for their pet to live due to a variety of factors that leave them unable to care for their animals and when no other assistance is available. The animals are cared for through foster home placement. Pet assist is a short-term program, but each case is assessed based on the owner’s specific circumstances and resources of the shelter. 
    • NOTE: Response time can be up to 72 hours. Must have appointment to drop off. Can only accommodate for 30 currently. Can take up to 10 days for dogs and dogs need foster placement before being accepted.

    • As part of our work in keeping pets with their families, we have partnered with Human Service Agencies and our Animal Control Partners to bring services to the citizens of Jefferson County. Our goal is to preserve the human-animal bond by providing support and services to those who need it. We provide pet food, animal supplies, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. We will also provide short-term housing when requested.

    • Wag and Rover are two companies that offer pet walking, drop-in visits, and pet sitting/boarding services. These services are through independent pet sitters. Services range from $15 for a 15-minute walk for dogs to $40-65+/night for overnight dog sitting. These are good options if you need immediate care.

 

  • Most veterinarians also provide boarding services. Your local veterinarian may be able to help board your animal in an emergency/crisis.
