Youth Opportunties

We’re so lucky to have supporters of all ages. It is never too early to start helping the animals at Denver Animal Shelter. There are so many ways to help pets in need; below are just a few ideas:

Junior Volunteer Program: Must be between 8-15 years of age and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Junior team volunteers must complete two applications: one for the junior volunteer and one for the adult. Junior volunteers will be asked to commit to 6 months of volunteering and 4 hours per month.

High School Volunteer Program: Student volunteers between 16-18 years old that need to complete community service/volunteer hours for graduation can participate in this program. High school volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per month for 6 months or a total of 24 volunteer hours.

Foster Volunteer: Participating and providing foster care is a great way for young people to get experience volunteering and helping animals in need. You can find out how to sign up and read more information on our Foster Program page.

Fundraise/Pet Supply Drive: This is an excellent form of volunteer work for our youth. Set up a donation drive to collect food, treats, toys, and other pet supplies for our foster program or the animals at the shelter. View our Amazon Wishlist to see the most current needs for the shelter. You can also set up a bake sale or other type of fundraising event to collect monetary donations for the shelter. Drop off of donations can occur seven days a week, but if you would like to schedule time with a staff member to get a photo, please email: Lauren.Rolfe@denvergov.org

Homemade toys and supplies: There are several homemade craft ideas that you can find to create toys for the animals, as well as blankets. Host a craft day with your class, friends, or family and create some toys for the animals. This is another great way to volunteer your time to support the animals. Drop off of donations can occur seven days a week, but if you would like to schedule time with a staff member to get a photo, please email: Lauren.Rolfe@denvergov.org
