Whittier: 'The Building Up of Denver'

Located only a couple of miles northeast of downtown, Whittier is a diverse neighborhood full of historic houses and a long, rich history. Considered one of Denver's earliest suburbs, Whittier has been around since the 1870s. The neighborhood used to be a thriving working and middle class area of the city with a diverse population, which included Italian and German immigrant families as well as a growing African American community.

Whittier is often associated with the Five Points area as the two have similar histories. Five Points was a combination of businesses and residences, whereas Whittier has traditionally been a residential neighborhood, home to historically significant Manual High School.
