What is a transit corridor?
When planning for TOD, a transit corridor is best defined as the walkable areas around all of the stations along a transit line. Any transit technology can define a transit corridor – commuter or light rail, streetcar, trolley or bus. The TOD potential depends more on the design and quality of service than it does on transit technology. Things to consider:
- Line is "fixed” - provides certainty for developers and investors that transit service will not be moved to another corridor
- Station Area walkability and bikeability
- Presence of retail amenities near station areas
- Local and regional housing market health
