A person or business that operates a pedal cab
A pedal cab is a multi-wheeled, hooded, or unhooded vehicle that is propelled by human power and is used for the transport of passengers for a fee on the public streets.
Pedal Cab License Plates
As of March 1, 2013, all licensed pedal cabs will be required to display a pedal cab license plate on the rear of their vehicles. Licensed pedal cab companies must obtain a plate for each of their vehicles from the Department of Excise and Licenses.
*The one-time cost of each license plate is $25.00.
*The plates must be displayed on the back of the pedal cab at all times and be lit at night.
*Annual renewal stickers for the plates will be issued upon renewal of the pedal cab company license. There is no extra charge for the renewal sticker. Current annual stickers must be displayed on the plate, to the right of the three-digit plate number, by March 1st of each year.
These rules were adopted in December 2012 thanks to significant efforts from the pedal cab industry and Denver stakeholders, and after a public hearing. Below is the full text of the license plate rule, and two rules regarding pedal cab driver’s licenses and proof of insurance:
1. All pedal cabs operated by a licensed pedal cab company shall have displayed a pedal cab license plate issued by the Department of Excise and Licenses. The license plate shall be displayed on the back of the pedal cab at all times, be lit at night, and have a current annual renewal sticker issued by the Department.
2. If a licensed pedal cab driver stops working for his or her pedal cab company of record, the driver and the pedal cab company shall notify the Department of Excise and Licenses within ten (10) days. A licensed driver may transfer his or her pedal cab driver’s license to a new pedal cab company, in accordance with existing Department procedures.
3. Licensed pedal cab companies shall submit current proof of insurance to the Department of Excise and Licenses upon annual license renewal.
