Protesting Your Property Value

Beginning in 2013, Denver adopted the Pilot Alternate Valuation Protest Procedure established by § 39-5-122.8, C.R.S. All valuation, classification and tax disputes are now heard before the Denver Board of County Commissioners (BoCC). Protests differ from abatements. A taxpayer may file either one but not both for the same tax year.

Valuation and/or classification protests occur in the current calendar year only (2014) and must be filed with the BoCC no later than November 15, 2014, before property taxes are levied. To appeal the 2014 tax year, a writeable PDF protest form may be submitted.

Abatement petitions for tax years 2012 and 2013 may filed with the BoCC now.
