Beginning in 2013, Denver adopted the Pilot Alternate Valuation Protest Procedure established by § 39-5-122.8, C.R.S. All valuation, classification and tax disputes are now heard before the Denver Board of County Commissioners (BoCC). Protests differ from abatements. A taxpayer may file either one but not both for the same tax year.
Valuation and/or classification protests occur in the current calendar year only and must be filed with the BoCC no later than November 15 of that calendar year. The due date for 2014 has passed and the Assessor’s Office will no longer accept appeals for the 2014 tax year. You may submit a Petition for Abatement or Refund of Taxes for the 2014 year beginning January 2015.
Abatement petitions for tax years 2012 and 2013 may filed with the BoCC now.
A writeable PDF Abatement Petition along with Instructions may be found under the "Forms" and "Abatement or Refund of Taxes" topic on the left side of the Assessor's Welcome Page.
