Don't See Your Project LIsted?
See more detailed info on projects that are exempted from building permit requirements in our "Easy Projects" guide.

Section 130.5 of the Denver Building Code Amendments (see the Building Code Amendments here) states which work activities do not require building permitting for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other construction activities.

Other Permits May be Required

Please Note: A permit from Wastewater, Zoning, or the Fire Department may be required even if a building permit is not required.

If you think your planned work is exempt, please contact Development Services to be sure.

Why Do I Need a Permit?
  • It saves time and money
The permitting process helps you determine if your project is feasible or even allowed before you invest time and money completing the project
  • It ensures safety
Permits and inspections help to ensure that the work meets minimum building standards.
  • It’s the law
The City and County of Denver requires you to get permits for most residential projects.
