Instructions for Obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit

 
 
 

 

1. Along with these instructions, specific to the City and County of Denver, follow the above links.

You will not need to bring a photograph of your self, as described on page two of the Information Packet. Your photograph will be obtained at the time you present your application at the Processing Room, located at Police Headquarters, 1331 Cherokee Street.

2. Please carefully review all instructions and complete the application. The application requires that you bring several additional documents at the time of presentation. The Information Packet should answer most, if not all, questions you may have about obtaining your permit. You must have all necessary documentation at the time you apply or your application will be rejected. DO NOT SIGN YOUR APPLICATION UNTIL YOU PRESENT IT TO THE POLICE OFFICER AT YOU SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT.

3. In order to apply for your permit, YOU MUST HAVE A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. Appointment times to bring your application to Police Headquarters will be scheduled during the hours of 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Should you need special consideration regarding these hours, we will work with you and insure that you are processed in a timely manner.   If you have any additional questions, you may call the appointment line, (720) 913-6836. A police technician or clerk will assist you with answers for your questions or referrals to other authoritative sources.

4. DO NOT BRING ANY WEAPON WITH YOU WHEN YOU BRING YOUR APPLICATION FOR REVIEW.

5. When you arrive for your scheduled application appointment, you must bring the application fees. The fees must be presented as follows:

a. A Certified Check or Money Order for $100, payable to the “City and County of Denver.”, and,

b. A Certified Check or Money Order for $52.50, payable to “Colorado Bureau of Investigation.”

NO CASH OR PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

6. These fees are charged for the application review; no money will be returned if your application for a concealed handgun permit is denied. A concealed handgun permit may be denied by the sheriff or his/her designee under Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-203 (2) for “a reasonable belief that documented previous behavior by the applicant makes it likely the applicant will present a danger to self or others if the applicant receives a permit to carry a concealed handgun . . .”

7. An applicant who knowingly and intentionally makes a false or misleading statement on a permit application or deliberately omits material information requested on the application commits perjury as described by Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S.) 18-8-503. Upon conviction, the applicant shall be punished as provided in 18-1.3-501 of the Colorado Revised Statute.
