If you work around your home, yard, or garden, chances are you are storing some household products, that if disposed of improperly, may be harmful to you, your family, animals, and the environment. Items such as compact fluorescent bulbs, paint, pesticides, expired medications, cleaners, motor oil, and batteries can be toxic. They should not be thrown in the trash, poured down the drain or storm sewer, left at the curb or left in your alley.
To assist residents of the City & County of Denver in proper disposal and recycling of household hazardous wastes (HHW), the City is operates a door-to-door collection program of these materials directly from Denver homes. Residents may only use this program once per year and must be Denver Solid Waste Management customers, residing in a single family home, townhome, or apartment building of 7 units or fewer. Denver residents that reside in multi-family buildings with more than 7 units are not eligible for a door-to-door collection, but may make an appointment to drop off items at the Denver Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Residents using the door-to-door program or the drop-off facility will be responsible for a $20 co-payment. Click here to learn more about the drop-off program.
