Concealed Weapons Permits

The State of Colorado authorizes legal residents of Colorado who demonstrate competence with handguns, to carry concealed handguns in all authorized areas of the state and in accordance with state law. How to Apply for Your Permit

Permit applications must be submitted in person and by appointment only at:

  1. In order to apply for your permit, you must schedule an appointment by calling the appointment line at (720) 913-6836. Appointments are conducted between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Should you need special consideration regarding these hours, we will work with you to ensure you are processed in a timely manner. If you have any additional questions, you may call the appointment line above.
  2. Download and complete the information packet, application forms and any other required supplemental documents shown above.
  3. When you arrive for your scheduled application appointment, you must bring the application fees listed below in the form of certified check or money order. No cash or personal checks will be accepted. The fees must be presented as follows:

     $100 payable to the City and County of Denver
     $52.50 payable to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation

  4. Do not bring any weapon with you when you bring your application for review.

Important Disclaimer
Fees are are required for all regular civilian applicants and are charged for application review. No money will be returned if your application for a concealed handgun permit is denied. A concealed handgun permit may be denied by the sheriff or his/her designee under Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-203 (2) for “a reasonable belief that documented previous behavior by the applicant makes it likely the applicant will present a danger to self or others if the applicant receives a permit to carry a concealed handgun...”

An applicant who knowingly and intentionally makes a false or misleading statement on a permit application or deliberately omits material information requested on the application commits perjury as described by Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S.) 18-8-503. Upon conviction, the applicant shall be punished as provided in 18-1.3-501 of the Colorado Revised Statute.

How to Renew Your Permit

You may submit an application for renewal within 120-days prior to the expiration of your permit.
You must call (720) 913-6836 to schedule an appointment to renew your permit in person at 1331 Cherokee Street, Denver, CO 80204. 

Appointments are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be sure to prepare the appropriate documents for your appointment.

You must bring the following documents and fees to your appointment:

1) A completed permit application, not signed.  Applications must be signed in the presence of the County Sheriff or their designee.  A Supplemental Form must be completed if you answer yes to #14 on the application.

2) A photocopy of a verifiable Colorado Driver’s License or Colorado / military photo ID.

3) A permit affidavit

4) Two, non-refundable processing fees in the form of check or money order (personal checks will not be accepted) made payable to the following organizations:
$13 to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (for a state and national criminal history check and for an Insta-check NICS per statute)
$50 made payable to the City and County of Denver (for forms, identification cards, local criminal history checks, and other costs). This fee is required for all regular civilian applicants.
