Cheesman Park Trails Schematic Design is Complete
Based on public input from an open house held in February 2009 and several follow-up meetings with neighborhood groups, the schematic design for an improved system of park trails is complete and ready for implementation through the Better Denver Bond. See schematic design pdf here.
The plan’s trail system offers different recreational experiences while also meeting ADA design requirements. The popular soft surface running trail on the park perimeter will remain with some improvements to its alignment. A concrete loop trail has been added in the big meadow and the 8th Ave. sidewalk will be upgraded to concrete. Consistent with the adopted master plan, two parallel walks lined with mature Linden trees and benches create a promenade or Unter Den Linden on the west side of the park.
Eight pedestrian tables or raised road crossings on the loop road will be constructed to slow traffic and minimize conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles. All park road entries will be posted 3-way stops, and trail crossings at these points have been shifted closer to the stop signs for safer crossings.
Construction will be during Fall/Winter 2009-2010 and also includes renovation of the entire park irrigation system.
