River North Park Master Planning
Creating a community with a focus on the South Platte River is a unique opportunity in northern Denver.  The concept design for the River North Park is an opportunity to showcase this unique part of Denver and create a recreational focal point for this area.  This park and associated improvements are a critical entry point to the South Platte River Greenway.  As the population is expected to expand dramatically over the next 20-30 years, proposed park development and improvements will ultimately intertwine with future proposed high density build out development of this area, ensuring that all those living and working within this area will also enjoy a high quality of life.

Comments and questions on this planning effort may be directed to David Marquardt, Denver Parks Planning, Design & Construction at David.Marquardt@DenverGov.org

Cesar Chavez Park Improvements
In conjunction with the Tennyson Street Improvements, Chavez Park will be receiving much needed park improvements with a focus on better access between the park and surrounding community.  Proposed upgrades within the park include improved access at the northwest and southwest corners of the park, a new plaza area adjacent to Tennyson Street with seat walls and accessible walks into the park, a half-court basketball court, table tennis, and bocce courts.  The existing ball field will be reprogrammed as a grass pitch-catch ball field and soccer field.  Construction of these improvements is scheduled to begin in August, 2011.  The park will officially be reopened to the public in Spring of 2012.  To comment on the proposed improvements or for questions regarding the project please contact DPR project manager Greg Cieciek at 720.913.0622 or at greg.cieciek@denvergov.org.

Babi Yar - Park Improvements
Improvements in Babi Yar Park are slated for construction beginning mid-summer 2010.  The Babi Yar Ravine will undergo drainage improvements for bank stabilization; stream stabilization using new low profile drop structures; and erosion control.  The work will include the restoration of wetlands, riparian vegetation and upland prairie, all under the guidance of an individual 404 permit.  The native prairie will be preserved and protected during construction, and areas disturbed during construction will be re-established with native plantings. The project is a collaborative effort between the City & County of Denver and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District. The project is funded by the 2007 Parks Improvements Bond Issue and UDFCD. After a year of research on various sites in the area, two possibilities have surfaced: a site on Colfax Ave/York St next to East High School and Congress Park. The City must make a decision about the final site in October.  Please submit your comments regarding these two sites via the comment form located on lower right side of page. Read More
