 Workplace Safety Minimize
The City and County of Denver strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees, as well as manage any accidents or incidents that may occur to minimize the impact on employees. The Risk Management Safety Unit has developed some guidelines and policies and Safety Classes to help meet this goal.

Rember that safety is a shared responsibility - we all have to do our part to keep ourselves and our coworkers safe.

Safety and Health Training is available upon request. Click here to see examples of material that can be presented to your particular group. Please contact Risk – Safety at 720-913-3348 for more information.

Buzz on Risk & Loss Prevention Minimize

“What you have done is not as important as what you are about to do.” The future is up to all of us. Saving lives and preventing injuries and illnesses must continue to be a paramount and strategic part of the way we do business in the upcoming year and in all the years to follow.

Emphasis on workplace safety and health has been improving for over a century and much of the progress has been realized since the Occupational Safety and Health Act, or OSHA, came into being over 30 years ago.   OSHA has provided the ground work for both public and private organizations.

Be ready when winter arrives …freezing temperatures, snowstorms, icy roads, and slippery sidewalks – all of which present a slip, trip and fall hazard. Most of us don’t consider walking—something we do nearly every day of our lives—to be hazardous. Yet, that simple act results in a significant number of slip, trip and fall injuries in the workplace each year.

The good news is that many slip, trip and fall injuries are preventable. Individually and collectively, much can be done to reduce the frequency and severity of these accidents.

Focus on Denver’s Photo Red-Light Program

Guest Writer – Kory Nelson (Assistant City Attorney – Senior)

The Dangers Involved

Traffic crashes are the single most significant cause of preventable death and injury in North America. In 2007 in the U.S., almost 900 people were killed and an estimated 153,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light violations. One in three Americans knows someone who has been injured or killed in a red light violation crash. Public costs exceed $14 billion per year, and more than half of the deaths in red light violation crashes are other motorists and pedestrians. There is no doubt that red light runners are dangerous drivers who irresponsibly put others at risk. In America's cities ― where too often the yellow light has come to symbolize "hurry up" instead of "slow down" ― red light violations is the leading cause of all urban automobile crashes.
