Denver's Youth Agenda

In 2010, Denver launched a city-wide vision for youth:  Youth Engaged in Life, Thriving in Community.  Along with this vision statement, interconnecting focus areas of, Health, Education, and Safety, and outcomes were developed to guide conversations to unify opportunities, supports, and services to better meet the needs of youth and their families. Outcomes include:

Health
Outcome 1:  An increased percentage of youth will participate in physical activity at least 60 minutes per day.

Outcome 2:  Youth will have increased access to comprehensive health education.

Education
Outcome 1:  By the end of 9th grade, all youth are at or above grade level and have the support they need to graduate.

Outcome 2:  Youth will have increased access to positive, out-of-school-time activities and supports to build the skills and competencies needed to meet the growing demands of a global economy.

Safety
Outcome 1:  An increased percentage of youth will avoid criminal activity.

Outcome 2:  An increased percentage of youth will not experience juvenile victimization.

Bill of Rights for Youth
Denver’s youth agenda frames a “Bill of Rights” for our young people – the right to a quality education, a safe environment, and a healthy lifestyle.

Efforts are centered on engaging stakeholders and identifying opportunities to coordinate efforts across focus areas to create efficiencies that lead to a more effective service delivery and systematic change.
