Environmental ServicesFrequently Asked Questions
Are records for environmental cleanup sites available for public review?
Yes,
most of our records are available for public review. Records available
for review include complaint investigations, asbestos permits and
inspections, landfill locations, water quality, and under and
above ground storage tanks. You should be aware that, for environmental
sites at which Denver is not the lead agency such as Superfund or RCRA
sites, our records are not complete. You may want to contactthe CDPHE Environmental Records Search (telephone 303-692-3300) or the US EPA Region 8 to review more complete files on these sites.
To
request an environmental record search, you must make a request in
writing that includes the exact address, facility name (past or
present) and why you are requesting the search. Please contact us at
720-865-5452 if you have any questions.
Are there any requirements that Denver places on cleanup of contaminated sites, in addition to federal and state law?
The
Denver Ordinances contain local requirements that may be applicable for
remedial activities. Our staff would also be happy to help explain
ordinance requirements, and how they may affect your site, or put you
in touch with other city departments for more information. Ordinances
that may affect remedial activities include:
- air pollution control, Chapter 4;
- special construction zones, Chapter 10;
- health & sanitation (solid waste & private disposal), Chapter 24;
- fouling streams, Chapters 24-9;
- noise control, Chapter 36;
- nuisances/imminent hazards, Chapter 37;
- solid waste, Chapter 48;
- littering watercourses, Chapter 48;
- streets, sidewalks & public ways, Chapter 49;
- radium sites, Chapters 48 & 49;
- sanitary sewers/wastewater/utilities, Chapter 56; and
- zoning
