RISE is a jail-based program, recently adopted by Denver, that supports jail to community reentry efforts through designated jail reentry officers, treatment, community case management and supervision for high risk offenders with a history of substance abuse (3rd and subsequent DUI) sentenced to jail. The approach is to implement a short-term intensive, comprehensive jail-to-community program for these DUI offenders with addictions with the goal of reducing recidivism in repeat DUI and addiction offenders.
The RISE curriculum encompasses full 12-hour days of recovery programs/classes, intensive case management support, and therapy. Eligibility for the program require that the offender has had a history of substance abuse crimes (3rd and subsequent DUI), and be assigned to the unit. Initially, the male RISE unit filled 12 beds but has the capacity for 64 beds. Funding for the female RISE unit has recently been approved and the unit will be coming soon!
