Overview:
Justice Reinvestment is a data-driven approach to reduce corrections spending and reinvest savings in collaborative strategies that can decrease crime and strengthen neighborhoods/communities. The working group is currently in its first phase of implementation, which includes: identifying stakeholders who formally agree to participate in the initiative, setting milestones to be pursued regarding data collection and analysis, plans to coordinate with local/state initiatives, and a plan to kick off the project. The group’s emphasis is geared toward female offenders (who have also been victims of domestic violence) and their children and how community and system-based providers can better serve them in an effort to essentially reduce crime and recidivism and create a safe and healthy environment for their children, who are at-risk of academic truancy and becoming involved in the criminal justice system. Services in discussion include educational support and training, urgent care assistance, and other services that minimize the impact, of domestic violence incident(s), on children and families.
