Medications on Release (GAP Funds) at the Denver County Jail

Access to medication upon reentry from jail into the community is critical for a successful transition. To address this need, the Commission has worked with the Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD), psychiatric jail services operated by Denver Health, and system stakeholders, to create the Gap Fund. The Fund provides persons leaving jail with extended prescriptions and subsidized medications for approximately 30-60 days post release. This program has ensured participants remain stable upon release as they transition under the direct care of other mental health services.  Initially, CPCC provided the funding for this program. In 2010 the Denver Sheriff Department began contributing $80,000 to the fund to increase the total fund amount to $180,000/year.
